Dan Philgreen opens DESCRIPTION:“These trailer park hippies can sing and play their butts off and don’t give a hoot what the straights think! It’s White Stripes meet Country Joe McDonald\, with things just psychedelic enough to keep everyone interested and on their toes. The humor is good. The music even better.”\n– Vintage Guitar Magazine/RA\n\nHymn for Her began as the duo of Wayne Waxing and Lucy Tight some 20 years ago in Philadelphia\, playing garage rock and roots-punk via Waxing on drums while also playing either guitar or banjo\, and Tight on cigar-box guitar\, has blossomed into a trio with the many times addition of daughter\, Diver\, on keys. Diver has been part of the touring unit since birth\, hustled along with Mom and Dad in the touring Airstream as they made their way around the country on what seemed to be a never-ending tour.\n\nThey’ve got five full-length releases under their belt\, and as of late have been doing the singles thing. In 2023\, they’ve dropped two: “Elders” is a soft\, harmony-heavy nod to when Waxing and Tight worked in a retirement community before the pandemic\, a cut that’s the ripe\, dream-pop sound they’ve pushed out. “Guns\, Porn and Jesus” is a glorious jab at some of the roadside sights and personal beliefs of some of the residents of Hymn for Her’s now home state of Florida\, a blast of cow-punk and satirical hillbilly rock that would make Mojo Nixon proud. Both singles were recorded at their home studio\, which remains home base for future musical output.\n\nHymn for Her have been busy touring across the country and abroad over the past few years\, injecting juiced-up backwoods country blues with a dose of desert rock psychedelia that has been described as “Hell’s Angels meets the Amish\,” and “Hillbillies with electronics opening Pandora’s Box”\n\nIn 2017\, they returned to the UK and Europe playing many festivals\, including Glastonbury\, to promote “Drive Til U Die” to their overseas audience. They recorded their 2nd album\, “Hymn for Her Presents . . . Lucy and Wayne and the Amairican Stream”\, in their vintage 1961 Bambi Airstream trailer at locations stretching from Philadelphia to Malibu on a three-month tour.\nThe duo certainly covers a lot of musical territory in Smokin Flames. Their wild-eyed mash-up of country\, blues and punk led U.K. music critic Steve Bennett to call H4H’s sound “a riotous\, rocking roadkill stew\,” while others have referenced such diverse bands as Captain Beefheart\, Primus\, X\, R.L. Burnside\, JS Blues Explosion and the Ramones.\nImpressively\, the two create their “ripsaw sounds” (Los Angeles Times’ Randy Lewis) with only a few instruments. Wayne (with the devilish voice)\, mainly playing the kick-drum\, high-hat\, acoustic guitar and harp\, serves as the group’s rhythmic driving force. Lucy (of the fallen-angel voice) delivers a gritty squall on her “Lowebow” — a custom-made cigar-box guitar: “The Riff Monster.”\nDuring the pandemic\, Hymn For Her played a live song on FB every Sunday for over a year. These “Singalong Sundays” were a way to share smiles and keep connected with fans.\nAs stated in their press kit\, which is the ACMA’s good fortune….\n“Catch this duo and many times trio as they burn down the highway and tear up your town like a Wichita twister”.\nFind out more about Hymn for Her at:\nhymnforher.com\nACMA member singer/songwriter Dan Philgreen will open this show. After failed attempts at violin and piano\, Dan Philgreen picked up the guitar in the 7th grade. Like many of his age he was very influenced by the many singer-songwriters that were at the height of their popularity during the 70’s when he was in high school\, as well as the folk-rock bands of that era\, such as Crosby\, Stills\, and Nash. He has played in church for much of his life but has also always had a love for folk music which never had much of an outlet before his moving to Fort Myers. The founding of the Americana Community Music Association opened a door of opportunity to develop and share his music in a community of folks who are also passionate about this genre. Though he dabbled in song-writing earlier in his life and had a few songs to his credit\, the inspiration of the ACMA’s songwriter’s circle spurred him to write many more songs over the past few years. His playing has also developed to a higher point in the last decade and he says that\, with age\, his voice is finally starting to cooperate as well. Dan’s songs are based on his observations of life and the beauty he sees in the world. They deal with the challenges of life honestly\, but always attempt to leave the listener with hope.\nTickets for this show will be available at the door.\nDoor donations: $12 for Members; $18 for General Public\nDoors open at 6:30pm and the show starts at 7:00pm\nCome join us! Bruce Gallant Opens DESCRIPTION:Make sure you come to this WOW summer concert! For the first time on our stage\, help us give a big ACMA welcome to ADAM EZRA GROUP!!\nWorking outside the confines of the traditional music industry\, Adam Ezra and his bandmates – Corinna Smith (fiddle)\, Alex Martin (drums)\, Poche Ponce (bass) – built a community of fans through sheer grit and determination\, regularly performing hundreds of shows a year for the past two decades without any major label or mainstream radio support. Fusing folk intimacy and rock energy with soul power and pop charm\, the band first emerged from Boston in the early 2000’s and quickly garnered widespread acclaim for their bold\, insightful songwriting and interactive\, euphoric performances. From hole in the wall bars and house concerts to sold-out headline shows and dates with the likes of Little Big Town\, The Wallflowers\, Gavin DeGraw\, Train\, and The Wailers\, Ezra and his bandmates treated every single gig like their last\, attracting a die-hard following that believed not just in the music\, but in their commitment to activism and social change\, as well.\nAfter their tour was cancelled at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic\, Ezra brought the show online to continue this commitment and created The Gathering Series which to-date has reached a cumulative audience of 15 million viewers. The bands ongoing daily livestreams since March of 2020 stands as a testament not only to Ezra’s artistic endurance\, but also his ability to connect with viewers and provide an accepting and supportive space for newcomers to join his tight-knit community of fans. Through his own experience with COVID\, his move across the country\, and even his wedding day\, Ezra has broadcasted without fail from wherever he found himself each night at 7pm Eastern. In addition to bringing The Gathering Series to the real world as they performed nearly 50 safe\, socially distanced shows in parks and backyards around the United States to bring light to fans through music\, the band didn’t stop there. Their homegrown festival\, The Ramble\, hosted by RallySound\, raises money and marshals resources to help homeless veterans find safe and dignified housing for the last ten years. While the band was unable to bring the festival to fans live in the year of COVID\, they instead incorporated it into The Gathering Series and hosted a 24-hour\, nonstop livestream where they raised enough money to help house 64 veterans.\nThe Adam Ezra Group hit their 500th Live stream show on July 25th\, 2021. They have also played an additional 50 backyard socially distanced shows\, and are starting to tour heavily again in traditional and outdoor venues. As if this wasn’t enough to keep them busy\, the band also embarked on an ambitious new recording series dubbed ‘The Album Project’ which will see the band releasing at least 19 new singles over the next few years. What comes next for the Adam Ezra Group? The future is anyone’s guess right now\, and the only thing the Adam Ezra Group knows for sure\, is they’ll be out there making music however and whenever they can.\nFind our more cool stuff here:\nadamezra.com\nThe perfect opener for this show….Bruce Gallant! Chuck Williams Opens DESCRIPTION:There is no better way to finish out October’s concerts than with Jon Shain!\nShain is a veteran singer-songwriter who’s been turning heads for years with his words\, his fiery acoustic guitar work\, and his evolved musical style – combining improvised piedmont blues with bluegrass\, swing\, and ragtime. He is the 2019 winner of the International Blues Challenge in the solo/duo category. Shain’s most recent solo disc\, Gettin’ Handy with the Blues: A Tribute to the Legacy of WC Handy\, was released in 2018. Shain’s latest releases recorded along with long-time collaborator FJ Ventre are the gorgeous roots album\, Tomorrow Will Be Yesterday Soon (2019) and Never Found A Way to Tame the Blues (2021).\n\nJon grew up in Haverhill\, Massachusetts\, a Merrimack River mill-town that had already seen its better days by the time he was a child in the 1970s. At the same time\, Shain began to discover his love of American roots music and songwriting\, specifically drawn to the narratives about regular people and themes of social justice.\n\nShain headed south to North Carolina in 1986\, to study American History at Duke University and to continue his musical journey\, as well. It was at this time that Shain also got to meet and play with John Dee Holeman and a number of the great older NC blues players. Shain’s classes in school were heavily concentrated in southern history\, English\, and world religions. That mixture of the academic environment and the real-world blues music is what has most informed his musical direction.\nShain cut his touring teeth from 1989-1998 founding the Chapel Hill\, NC folk-rock group\, Flyin’ Mice and their spin-off group\, WAKE. The band performed with acts such as David Grisman\, Tony Rice Unit\, Hot Tuna\, and the Dixie Dregs\, released four CDs\, and played clubs\, schools\, and festivals up and down the East Coast\, building a legion of fans. After his band’s breakup\, Shain went solo\, returning to his roots in the folk and blues circuit. In addition to two albums with FJ Ventre and one with Joe Newberry\, Jon has released ten albums of his own folk-blues compositions.\nRead more at:\njonshain.com\nOpening the show is ACMA member and singer/songwriter\, Chuck Williams.\n‘Williams employs a voice that resembles Neil Young’s with the edges rounded-off. There seems to be a proud and strong tradition of folk music speaking truth to power within his tunes’.\nDon DiMuccio Motif – Providence\, Rhode Island News\nChuck’s approach is typically relaxed\, at times sentimental and always confident. He is not a folk artist with heavy political leanings in his songwriting such as Joan Baez\, Phil Ochs or U. Utah Phillips. However\, what Chuck has mastered is how to pull at Americana heartstrings and tell rootsy stories through his simple and effective novella type lyrics. Nothing is overproduced or played with flash. Chuck has a personable singing style and it’s not done to impress but express.\n\nHis music has some of the same energies of songwriters such as David Crosby\, John Prine\, and definitely Neil Young\, while not sounding like any of them. There is something here that a lot of people are going to latch on to\, especially in these trying times. Chuck’s music does exactly what it is suppose to do…..it reaches emotions in the listener. It gives words to feelings we all share and provokes thought long after the music is over. His style is unique yet it feels familiar.\nTake a listen:\nchuckwilliams.com\nTickets for the show are available at the door.\nDoor Donations:\n$12/Members\n$18/General Public URL:https://www.americanacma.org/event/jon-shain-in-concert-chuck-williams-opens/ LOCATION:ACMA. at All Faiths Unitarian\, 2756 McGregor Blvd.\, Fort Myers\, FL\, 33901 ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://www.americanacma.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Screenshot-2024-03-06-at-1.41.38 PM.png GEO:26.6265633;-81.884597 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=ACMA. at All Faiths Unitarian 2756 McGregor Blvd. Fort Myers FL 33901;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=2756 McGregor Blvd.:geo:-81.884597,26.6265633 END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20241102T190000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20241102T213000 DTSTAMP:20240429T082810 CREATED:20240306T183929Z LAST-MODIFIED:20240306T184409Z UID:3358-1730574000-1730583000@www.americanacma.org SUMMARY:Jefferson Ross in Concert! Bravo!” —Mary Gauthier/Artist \nFind out more at:\ndavidgsmith.com \nOpening the show is ACMA member and singer/songwriter\, Ray Boone. Ray first arrived in Nashville in the early 80’s. He did not come to play music\, he came as a music fan and to provide support for his songwriter cousin. His cousin\, Larry Boone\, was making his mark in country music\, as an award winning songwriter and an artist with Mercury Polygram. \nFast forward to 2007\, Ray returned to Nashville as an award winning outdoor television producer. He produced RFDTV’s “Music and Motors”\, featuring Mike Curb’s NASCAR team and young country music stars in the making. During the making of the TV show Ray was surrounded by songwriters and music makers who encouraged him to write. As a writer he signed with BMI. When a song he penned himself\, “Totch Brown”\, about a character from the Florida Everglades was being demoed\, independent artist Rickie Lee Tanner decided to cut it on his album “This Here.” \nA year later country artist\, Jake Clayton cut two of his compositions\, “Down with That” and “Old Red Barn.”\,”How’s that working for you” and “Means Everything”. The “High South” band had it’s first hit with his Co-write “All We Need”. The ACMA is lucky that Ray Boone and his wife decided to call Cape Coral\, FL home! \nTickets are available at the door. \nDoor Donations:\n$12/Members\n$18/General Public \nDoors open at 6:30 pm and the show starts at 7:00 pm. Pete Bensen Opens DESCRIPTION:With an Americana/classic country vibe alongside rockin’ guitar work\, welcome these two to our ACMA stage for their debut. You are in for something special! \nBlue Cactus\, the North Carolina duo of Steph Stewart and Mario Arnez\, make Dream Country: a blend of grit\, glitz\, groove\, and twang that evokes a celestial soundscape of mid-century heartbreak and harkens comparisons eclectic and iconic as Bobbie Gentry\, Fleetwood Mac\, and David Bowie. \nTheir sophomore album\, Stranger Again\, released in 2021 on Sleepy Cat Records\, nabbed enthusiastic attention from tastemakers including No Depression\, American Songwriter\, FLOOD Magazine\, Talkhouse\, and INDY Week among others. Following their critically-acclaimed 2017 debut and a string of singles in 2020\, Stranger Again saw the band taking their sound to an ambitious new plane\, where country-rock and light psychedelia mingle\, vocals soaring over twangy slide guitars and propulsive basslines. \nThe North Carolina duo have performed at several beloved festivals including Nelsonville\, Red Wing Roots\, Muddy Roots and Hopscotch and shared the stage as support for an array of artists from The War & Treaty\, Sarah Shook & the Disarmers\, and Lilly Hiatt to Town Mountain and Junior Brown among others. \nBetween the comfort of classic country and the glamour of 70s rock\, Blue Cactus resuscitates a fleeting style of honest-to-goodness country music considered valueless to a “new” country music where songwriting is officiated by financial analysts and teams of marketing plutocrats instead of woebegone troubadours. With a high lonesome twang\, an Emmylou-like southern drawl\, and blistering guitar techniques\, Blue Cactus exercises the honky-tonk muscles to firmly bear the flag for a new generation of country music. \n“If country music is often about familiarity and comfort\, this is more like having the rug artfully pulled out from under you without even noticing it.”\n—–CREATIVE LOAFING \nTake a look at this:\nbluecactusmusic.com \nACMA member and singer/songwriter\, Pete Bensen opens the show. An old hand at garage bands and rehearsal studios\, born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island\, New York. Pete now makes his home\, and home music studio\, in Estero\, Florida. Louise Mosrie Opens DESCRIPTION:Welcome back to grace the ACMA stage\, Cliff Eberhardt and Louise Mosrie!\n“Eberhardt sings with passion and with wit…what makes his brand so rare is the self-assurance and poise he brings to his nearly flawless show.”\n— The New York Post\n\nCliff Eberhardt knew by age seven that he was going to be a singer and songwriter. Growing up in Berwyn\, Pennsylvania\, he and his brothers sang together and their parents played instruments. His dad introduced him to the guitar and he quickly taught himself to play. Fortunate enough to live close to the Main Point (one of the best folk clubs on the East Coast)\, he cut his teeth listening to the likes of James Taylor\, Joni Mitchell\, Bruce Springsteen\, Howlin’ Wolf\, Muddy Waters\, Bonnie Raitt\, and Mississippi John Hurt — receiving an early and impressive tutorial in acoustic music. At the same time\, he was also listening to great pop songwriters like Cole Porter\, the Gershwins\, and Rodgers and Hart\, which explain his penchant for great melodies and clever lyrical twists.\n\nNew York was an ideal musician’s boot camp. Though he put in long hours as a taxi driver\, Cliff worked steadily on his music throughout the 80’s\, doing solo gigs and studio work\, and playing guitar on the road with Richie Havens\, Melanie and others. Singing advertising jingles for products like Coke\, Miller Beer and Chevrolet (“The Heartbeat of America” campaign) allowed him to devote more time to his songwriting.\n\nIn 2011\, Cliff got a phone call from the Folger Theatre and Shakespeare Library in Washington DC. They had been listening to his song\, “That Kind of Love” along with director Aaron Posner and got the brilliant idea to hire Cliff to write original songs for the Shakespeare classic “The Taming of the Shrew”. It would be set in the old West – Deadwood style – and Cliff would be cast as the blind but wise old saloon singer bookending scenes with his poignant songs and guitar phrases. The play was a huge success and won much critical acclaim across town and 7 weeks of solid sold-out shows in the Spring of 2012. In 2013\, Cliff was nominated for a coveted Helen Hayes Award for Sound Design and he and the cast won for Best Ensemble and Best Play. Some of the songs on Shrew Songs are from Cliff’s past work and some are brand new.\n\nCliff is well-known as a songwriting teacher all over the U.S. at songwriting camps and private lessons. He also produces\, arranges and advises on other artist’s recordings. He tours constantly.\ncliffeberhardt.net\n\nJoining Cliff is the fabulous Louise Mosrie. Louise started writing songs about the South – what she knew and where she grew up. In 2008\, she began working on a new album eventually to be called “Home” because she’d come full circle in her “voice” as a writer. The album was a mix of bluegrass\, country and folk and as she weaved in lush stories and songs about southern life\, she was even introduced once as “…William Faulkner with a guitar”. With those songs\, she entered some song contests connected to festivals and ended up winning top awards at Kerrville Folk Festival\, Wildflower! Festival\, Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. “Home” debuted at #1 on the Folk DJ charts in January 2010 and went on to be one of the most played albums that year for that chart.\n\nIn 2012\, her 15-year marriage ended and her mother was diagnosed with brain cancer and died 6 months later. Out of those dark days came some new songs that would eventually be recorded on her newest release “Lay It Down”: 10 songs of love\, loss and surrender. On “Lay It Down”\, she collaborated with folk-rock songwriter/producer\, Cliff Eberhardt\, who envisioned that minimalist arrangements and restrained production would allow the emotional songs and Louise’s voice a stark relief to rest and shine in.\nThe new CD\, “Lay It Down”\, was released in late summer/Fall 2014…and landed on several “Best of” lists. Louise is always writing new songs…..\nlouisemosrie.com\nTickets are available at the door.\nDoor donations:\n$12/Members\n$18/General Public\nDoors open at 6:30pm and the show starts at 7:00 pm URL:https://www.americanacma.org/event/cliff-eberhardt-in-concert-louise-mosrie-opens-2/ LOCATION:ACMA. at All Faiths Unitarian\, 2756 McGregor Blvd.\, Fort Myers\, FL\, 33901 ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://www.americanacma.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Screenshot-2024-03-06-at-1.06.13 PM.png GEO:26.6265633;-81.884597 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=ACMA. at All Faiths Unitarian 2756 McGregor Blvd. Fort Myers FL 33901;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=2756 McGregor Blvd.:geo:-81.884597,26.6265633 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
